Cassava Seed Bank Project for Elderly Farmers

July 20 - July 30

We are excited to announce a new initiative aimed at preserving and multiplying organic cassava cuttings while supporting our community’s elderly farmers. This project, made possible by a small grant, will focus on creating a sustainable seed bank for cassava, a vital crop in our region.

Key Details:

• Participants: 30 grandmothers from our local community
• Distribution: Each participant will receive two bags of organic cassava cuttings
• Purpose: To plant and cultivate these cuttings, establishing individual mini seed banks
• Future Impact: Other community members will be able to purchase cuttings from these participants, spreading the use of organic, locally-adapted cassava varieties,

This project serves multiple purposes:

1. Preserving traditional, organic cassava varieties
2. Empowering elderly farmers by providing them with resources and a potential income source
3. Improving food security in our community
4. Creating a sustainable, locally-managed seed bank system
